Extended shank G Series tree pointed end – deep acute groove & chamfer at reach
The Extended Shank G Series tree shape with pointed end extends the sharp tip geometry to 6-inch depth — accessing acute-angle V-grooves, tight pointed recesses, fine chamfer work, and engraving inside deep structural sections and confined areas where a standard shank tool cannot position correctly. Use when the groove or recess geometry specifically requires a pointed tip at extended reach and excellent axial control can be maintained.

Key features & benefits
6-inch extended reach shank
Extends the sharp pointed tip geometry to 6 inches from the collet — reaching acute V-grooves, tight pointed recesses, and fine chamfer areas deep inside structural sections.
Sharp pointed tip at depth
Needle-sharp tip reaches acute-angle groove bottoms and tight pointed recesses at extended reach depth — work that the F Series radius tip cannot perform at depth.
Solid tungsten carbide head
USA-manufactured solid carbide — maintains the pointed tip geometry at extended reach depth through controlled acute groove and chamfer work.
Deep acute chamfer & scribing
Pointed tip scribes fine lines and cuts acute chamfers inside deep sections and long confined passages where standard shank tools cannot position correctly.
Double cut
Double cut for steel, cast iron, and alloy steel deep acute groove and chamfer work at extended reach. Requires extra care — pointed tip is most vulnerable geometry on extended shank.

Safety guidelines
Most fragile burr on extended shank — never side-load the pointed tip at depth
The pointed tip of the G Series is the most fragile geometry in the extended shank range. At 6-inch reach, any lateral force applied to the tip is amplified into a significant bending moment — tip breakage risk is substantially higher than on a standard shank. Apply force only axially, reduce RPM by 20 to 30 percent, and use the minimum pressure needed. If you can use the F Series radius end for the application, do so.
Inspect tip carefully before and after every deep operation
Inspect the pointed tip under good lighting before mounting in the grinder and again after deep groove work at extended reach. A chipped, bent, or damaged tip at 6-inch extended shank operating RPM causes severe vibration and risk of shank failure. Discard immediately if any tip damage is found.
Full face shield required
Deep acute groove work inside structural sections ejects chips in concentrated streams. A full face shield is mandatory for all extended shank G Series operations.
Reduce RPM 20–30% — more critical than any other extended shank shape
RPM reduction is more important for the extended shank G Series than any other shape in the range. The pointed tip concentrates any vibration into the most fragile point. Always run at reduced RPM and stop immediately if any vibration or chatter develops.
Eye & hearing protection always
Wear safety glasses and hearing protection on all extended shank operations regardless of duration or material.
Store tip protected — never loose in toolbox
Store extended shank G Series with the tip protected at all times. A chipped tip before use is not visible during casual handling but causes dangerous vibration at operating speed.

Frequently asked questions
When should I use the extended shank G Series pointed end instead of the F Series radius end at depth?
Only use the extended shank G Series pointed end when the geometry at depth specifically requires a sharp tip and you cannot achieve the result with the F Series radius end. This typically means: an acute-angle V-groove whose base angle is tighter than the F Series radius tip diameter can enter; an internal pointed recess that must be worked to a sharp bottom; or fine scribing and chamfer work at depth where the radius tip would produce too wide a line or contact mark. In all other deep groove and weld root applications, the F Series radius end is the safer and more practical choice at 6-inch extended reach. The pointed tip of the G Series at extended reach is significantly more fragile and requires more careful technique than at standard shank depth.
How do I prevent pointed tip breakage when using the G Series at 6-inch extended reach?
Five rules prevent most tip breakage on extended shank G Series: first, reduce RPM by 20 to 30 percent vs standard shank settings — this is more critical for the G Series than any other shape; second, never enter a groove narrower than the tip diameter; third, apply force only axially along the shank — never laterally at the tip; fourth, use the minimum cutting pressure needed, not maximum; fifth, stop immediately if you feel any vibration or chatter and reduce RPM further before continuing. A clean, smooth cut with zero vibration is essential at extended reach with the G Series. If you cannot achieve a smooth cut, switch to the F Series radius end for the application.
Is the extended shank G Series available in aluma-cut for deep aluminum groove work?
Contact us at 1-800-645-1679 to confirm current availability of aluma-cut extended shank G Series configurations. For most deep aluminum acute groove work, the extended shank F Series aluma-cut radius end is the safer and more practical alternative — the radius tip is significantly more forgiving on aluminum at extended reach, and the aluma-cut geometry handles aluminum groove work effectively. Our team can advise on the best extended shank option for your specific deep aluminum groove application.
